(淨空法師法語)
《真正的修行,是要在心地上做功夫》
1. 修行,修的什麼行?我們心行有了錯誤,把它修正過來,這就叫修行。

2. 任何身份、任何行業、男女老少,都可以修圓滿的菩薩道。只要心裡時常想佛、念佛,工作就是修行,修行就是工作。

3. 修行是修自心,不是修別人。把佛陀的教訓,變成自己的思想行為;把經典中的道理,變成自己的思想境界,那才叫修行。

4. 修行是修正行為,身,不殺生、不偷盜、不邪淫;口,不妄語、不兩舌(挑撥是非)、不惡口(說話粗魯,說的話很難聽)、不綺語(花言巧語,欺騙別人);意裡面是不貪、不嗔、不癡。

5. 修行不能著相,覺得自己修得不錯,即已著相;不著相,可斷分別根。學佛,要斷惡、修善、離相,這是無量法門的總綱領。

6. 學佛的人,對已往所做的事,無論善惡,都不必追悔,既往不咎,以後眾善奉行就是了。
7. 真正的修行,是要在心地上做功夫,起心動念處做功夫,念頭才起就轉成佛號,這就叫做「從根本修」。學佛,是學把妄念伏住,能把妄念伏住,是人生的最高享受。

8. 佛在經裡面說得清清楚楚,「末法時期,淨土成就」,真正想得到修行的利益,一定要專——念的經要專,修行的法門也要專,只念一句阿彌陀佛,其他的都用不著了。

审查自己

我们永远都应该评判自己多于评判他人。真正对一个人的修持与行为有所帮助的是,审查自身的过失`错误与缺点。

Examine oneself / Self Assessment

We should always appraise/assess/judge ourselves more than doing so on others. What is truly beneficial to a person's cultivation level and behaviour is, to examine oneself's own wrongs done, mistakes made as well as weaknesses.

Dharma Cultivation - To practice forbearance


修持忍辱

对于那些看不顺眼,以及让你生气瞋恨心的对境,你就要修持忍辱,挡住生起瞋恨的道路,调伏自己的心续,这才是修持忍辱。如果你懂得如何修持的话,反而会觉得这些不顺的违缘及障碍,比起顺缘更对自己的修行有利益。

因此,释迦牟尼佛曾宣说,那些被魔众障碍的人,也是因为佛陀的加持。

To practice forbearance

As for those matters that you do not see eye to eye with, as well as those situations that might ignite the fury in you, it is even more required of you to practice forbearance, to halt that path which leads one to surface the anger/aversion/hatred, and to keep a rein on your train of thoughts (heart/mind), and this is the truly the practice of forbearance.

If you know how to practice forbearance well, you will find that those unfavourable conditions/affinity and obstacles that appear, instead become more beneficial to your cultivation practice than favourable conditions/affinity.

Hence, Shakyamuni Buddha says that those who are obstructed in their course of cultivation by unfavourable conditions (be it human or otherwise, situations etc), are also a part of blessing from the Buddha.

Dharma Cultivation

修法

修法,并非只是为今生,也不只是为将来的一百年`一千年而修的,同时也并不只是为了自己而修。修法是生生世世的,是从今生此刻开始,直至获得证悟菩提为止,是为了普天下所有众生的福泽和快乐,这是一个非常久远且伟大的愿望。

因此我觉得,真正有智慧的是修持佛法的人,因为修法者生生世世承办着所有众生的事.

Dharma cultivation

Dharma cultivation, is not only done for this lifetime, nor is it for the next hundred or thousand years. It is also not done for oneself. Dharma cultivation is perpetual, starting from this lifetime, this moment, until enlightenment; it is also done for the welfare, joy, happiness of all sentient beings, which is a very lengthy and noble aspiration indeed.

Hence, i feel that a person who has Bodhi wisdom is a person who cultivate the heart (mind) in accordance to Dharma, because the Dharma practitioner will perpetually for aeons, be shouldering the noble task of aiding sentient beings.

修法的成果

傲慢减轻,虔敬心增加,禅定也更加清明,善业一天比一天增加,对世间的出离心也日益增长。这些才是修法的成果。

相反地,如果你心中没生起这些成果,就算暂时看上去, 好像觉得自己具足戒律,观想也很厉害,但这对解脱和证悟究竟佛果,并没有任何的利益。

The fruits of labour from Dharma cultivation

Pride and arrogance reduce, sincerity and respectfulness to others increase, one's meditative stillness of the mind becomes more lucid and noticable; good deeds to be done grow day by day, and the heart of renounciation to this worldly phenomenon grows more resolute daily. These are the fruits of one's labour from practising the Dharma.

On the contrary, if your heart never surface these fruits (results), though you may appear temporary to others or yourself believing that you are armed fully with all the precepts and rules, or master well in the area of visualization practice, there is not much benefit reaped.
